Even though the International Astronomical Union has declared Pluto a ‘dwarf’ planet, it’s astrological presence can signify powerful and irrevocable change. Since the movement of Pluto is very slow, it’s transits have time to develop a serious depth and complexity.

The symbolic Pluto represents the ruler of the underworld.  That’s to be understood as your underworld.  There seems to be quite a lot of underworld-like shenanigans going on in the outside world at present.  However, a spiritual viewpoint would say that the inner state creates the outer.

Pluto by transit, and also by placement in the natal chart, brings us into confrontation with the wholeness that is our nature.  In this encounter, we can be shocked and humbled by the fullness of our ignorance and the selfishness that we may be forced to release in order to claim our ascent out of the underworld.

In a very real sense, we are reclaiming our own power.  Pluto is just there to help remind us what extraordinary and miraculous beings that we really are.  This realization is wealth.

Persephone, abducted by Pluto and taken against her will to the underworld, eventually becomes Queen of that realm.  She, as depicted in myth and in the Eleusinian Mysteries, returns to split her time between the the upper world and the lower, showing balance.

Persephone’s mother, Demeter, wanders the earth inconsolate and eventually teaches Triptolemus the art of agriculture.   This transforms humanity and restores fertility to an earth that had been left untended in Demeter’s sorrow over her daughter’s abduction.

The mother and daughter re-union with Persephone’s return from the lower world. And Triptolemus is taught to make nourishment for benefit of his fellow humans.

Pluto, or Plutus, was also regarded as the sacred child born of divine fire within the Eleusinian Mysteries.  Son of of Demeter and Iasion.  Triptolemus is also shown as the child (new growth or spring wheat) in this image.

If you have embraced your inner Pluto, you are certainly less likely to unconsciously place your inner underworld upon the outside world.  Principally, because it has ceased to hold you hostage.  Note the goddess Eirene (Peace) pictured here with the divine child Plutus.
